soul seeds is a spiritual novel of self-discovery—of faith, courage, forgiveness, and the uneasy search for one’s place in life. It is narrated by Addie Mae Aubrey, an old Southern, African-American woman who recounts the love, tragedy and magic that transformed her teenage years. My desire is for the book to be a guide into the reader’s own spiritual quest—a warm, meaningful embrace that both guides and inspires. soul seeds follows Addie Mae as a willful, naive young girl in the late 1930’s through her enlightening though sometimes terrifying teenage years. Beginning at age eleven with the unexpected arrival of Jenny, a beautiful but tragic bi-racial cousin and her shadowy father, Uncle Joe, soul seeds explores Addie Mae’s reluctant awakening. As Jenny, (the story’s mystical center), introduces Addie Mae to the spiritual world, a caring teacher, Miss Blanchard, guides with the power of reading and education. Romantic love enters her life for the first time with Rawley, and we experience how Addie Mae’s emerging sense of self compels her to a life-altering decision. Throughout the story, her mother remains an unwavering source of unconditional love, even as fear and evil shake their lives. Addie Mae exposes how life blossoms when we have the courage and strength to not only accept, but learn from our mistakes and sorrows. Addie Mae’s story may belong to one woman, but the lessons it teaches belong to everyone willing to open their hearts and listen to the truth within their souls. soul seeds asks us to discard our fears and walk towards light and love in the best way we are able, even if we stumble. I believe that those of us, and there are more every day, who want to make the world a better place, know we can only do so by transforming ourselves into what we wish others to be. For all of you who choose love over hate, courage over fear, truth over denial, and awareness over ignorance, soul seeds was written for you. soul seeds is seeking a publisher and is being represented by Namaste Literary Agency, a division of Namaste Publishing, www.namastepublishing.com. As any writer knows, the path to publishing is arduous and confusing. There are many worthy words out there struggling to find your eyes. I knew the journey would be unconventional, and that I would need to see beyond established boundaries. Destinations disappeared as I came close. soul seeds grew along the way. All the while, Addie Mae whispered, “be patient.” So we continue on, driven by a message of faith and love. And now, you are part of that journey… |
